Pulley is a software platform designed to simplify and manage equity distribution within companies, particularly useful for startups and growing businesses. It helps companies manage cap tables, model fundraising scenarios, and issue equity to founders, employees, and investors, ensuring compliance with regulations. By automating these processes, Pulley aims to save time, reduce errors, and provide a clear view of equity ownership and its implications for both the company and its stakeholders.

We were looking for a founder-friendly Carta alternative and were lucky to stumble upon the Pulley product. Not only is it well designed, but we were able to get our 409A valuation much faster than most other services.
I wish onboarding could have been faster, however, given the fast turnaround we were asking for, it was a very reasonable timeframe.
We needed a 409A valuation.
The SAFE calculator where you can test various scenarios and their impact on your cap table
Would want to see more onboarding g and tutorials
Managing our cap table and our equity figures. We can pull them instantly
The customer-focused team is working on understanding what pains exist and how to remedy them. From the product experience to customer support and sales, everyone is responsive and interested in figuring out what provides value.
I wish the fundraising modeler was more powerful and usable. Carta still leads in that regard, but they have stopped innovating in other areas. I trust that Pulley will catch up and outpace. I wonder if how it's priced (per stakeholder) may become an issue at some point (Angel List Stack does that part better).
Cap table management is essential and difficult. Pulley does that well, with reasonable next steps for how to improve. Overall, between Carta, Angel List Stack, and Pulley, I have to choose Pulley.
Simple to use Relatively inexpensive Quick response from implementation team
No facility for online chat or call. All queries will be answered only through email
We are a tech start up and wanted to have an electronic cap table for our shareholders. In Pulley we found an efficient and easy to use electronic cap table
- Manage cap table - Manage stakeholders - Manage documents - Manage ESOP
Currently, there is nothing to dislike. As I understand it is built. It would be good if it starts working post series A as wouldn't want to switch thereafter.
Managing cap table, stake holders, ESOP & documents around all this.
I like the simplicity of Pulley, and its ability to mimic most of the hard labor work of keeping track of cap table conversions on a manual spreadsheet.
It's more complicated than it should be to mock future cap table assumptions like SAFE note valuations. The interface for this mocking has changed, but the previous interface was better suited for the mocking behavior I desired. The specific struggle I have with this feature is the odd calculations it does as it "adds" shares to the outstanding share pool. Upon exporting, it makes for weird questions with accountants and investors when they see shares adding to our outstanding share pool even though no new shares exist as a result of the nature of a SAFE note.
The ability to track my own cap table and mock future scenarios of such seamlessly. The benefit is reduced stress in knowing my cap table is "correct" and being confident in that fact when sending it to potential investors.
The support team is amazing. The knowledge base is very helpful. There are a lot of features and it's relatively easily to understand the user journeys.
There are few annoying things like for example the latest YC SAFE templates aren't reflected. Which means I cannot use Pulley to execute them because they cannot represent "Stakeholder title" field in their template generators. So I end up using Docusign and migrate to Pulley afterwards.
Managing our cap table, documenting safes, collaborating with our legal counsel, scenario building
I can't pick my top best things about Pulley. For one, they are quick to respond with helpful tips, suggestions, and onboarding. Also, their financial modeling tool is versatile, robust, and easily understandable -- just what we needed. Finally, Pulley is the ONLY service we can find that doesn't balk at the complexity of our current round raise. (Especially with all of the different types of notes.)
As with most providers we've found, it's a bit difficult to import/onboard Reg CF rounds. We've made it work with a few quick fixes, but I look forward to it being a full feature.
Previously, we were using an in-house, home-brew spreadsheet to manage our cap table and financial modeling. We've found Pulley to be very helpful in bringing that out of the Dark Ages. We feel much more in control of the situation with certified geniuses building the backbone of the table. Though the competition couldn't hold a candle, anyway, it's also important to note that Pulley was the only service that could support us.
Aggressive pricing. Seemed like feature parity.
Some of the key features that we need are so buggy that it is unusable. We are currently going through the 409 a process and issuing stock options, and there are currently some critical bugs on the platform that prevent us from doing that... On top of that, the bugs were not proactively communicated to us. We had to spend hours banging our head on setting things up going to realize that it was not a user error, it was a system error.
We are looking for a comprehensive captable management solution.
Pulley has been a game changer for manaing our cap table. It's user-friendly and packed with features that are essential for cap table management. Pulley's UI is intuitive, it isn't overly busy, but is still feature-rich. Inputting stock agreements is super simple, including uploading new stock agreements for the same investor. Understanding your cap table at a glance is a key strength, especially for complex equity dynamics with multiple stock classes, SAFEs, etc. The standout features for me are 1) Pulley's Excel export function (it's perfect for diving into the details of the cap table or when you need to share it) and 2) Pulley's scenario modeling for future fundraising situations. I recommend Pulley to startup founders and entrepreneurs. It simplifies cap table management like no other tool I've used. Strongly recommended!
The automated feature when uploading a stock purchase agreement or SAFE still needs work, but it can be helpful. Sometimes the navigation can feel a bit TOO layered, but this isn't a make or break issue for me.
Pulley solves the problem of cap table management and understanding where your future equity ownership will fall, which is so important when raising on SAFEs in particular.
No other equity management tool even comes close to Pulley in terms of ease of use, support, features, and best of all - pricing.
I can't think of any downsides. Pulley really does hit the mark for founders.
Everything related to equity - primarily fundraising and keeping track of securities/options.
The experience with Pulley has been nothing short of exceptional over the last 2 years. The team at Pulley has demonstrated an unparalleled commitment to providing top-notch customer service, a lightning-fast response rate, and a deep well of expertise in the field. From the moment I engaged with Pulley, their team was attentive, professional, and genuinely eager to help. Their customer service representatives were always available to answer my questions, no matter how trivial or complex. I was particularly impressed by their ability to respond to my inquiries in a timely manner, often within minutes of receiving my email or phone call. This level of responsiveness is a rare find in today's business landscape, and it truly sets COMPANY apart from their competitors. One of the standout aspects of Pulley services is their knowledgeable team members. It is clear that they invest in hiring the best talent in the industry, ensuring that each team member possesses a deep understanding of the intricacies involved in cap table management. This expertise was evident in the way they meticulously handled every aspect of our cap table, from ensuring accurate documentation to providing insightful advice on best practices. The level of detail and care that Pulley's team demonstrated throughout the entire process was simply exceptional. They continuously kept me in the loop during onboarding, and they made sure to address any concerns or questions that arose along the way. This proactive approach to communication not only put my mind at ease but also contributed to the overall success of our project.
The automated document system can be improved but has made significant additions over time. I think a slightly better documentation structure for some of the common flows would be helpful e.g. a swimlane type diagram and triggers / which variables are changed at each stage of the process.
Staying compliant and up-to-date on all equity management, as well as a source of truth for all legal documentation, templates, automation, and support along the way for someone knew to the whole ecosystem.
Pulley's user experience is second to none. Their note-issuing sequence is painless and has saved me countless hours. Additionally, the inclusion of calculators in-app that pull in my existing cap table just lets me get all of my work done in-app, instead of hopping from spreadsheet to spreadsheet. On the customer service side, the two I have interacted with so far are Lam and Jordan. They are both stellar, respond quickly, are knowledgeable about the platform and fundraising in general. Their service alone would make this review a 10/10, even if the platform was crap (which it isn't).
Not much. The only negative is the somewhat unclear onboarding process, but I believe that should be chalked up more to my ignorance than anything else.
1. Easily create, issue, and keep track of SAFEs and other convertibles. 2. Easily invite my investors to their portals so they have visibility into their investments.
Very simple dashboard of equity, options and investments.
Must upgrade for document signing and custom templates.
Cap table management and 409A.
The support team behind Pulley is the reason I am writing this review. They were diligent and helpful through every step of this process, walking me through all pieces necessary in getting our cap table up to date. We are an early-stage startup, so the features that we have used thus far been simple and easy.
I have a limited perspective on this as we haven't used many of the advanced features yet, but the one bummer is not being able to issue simple stock purchase agreements through the platform without bumping our payment tier from "startup" to the more expensive option. This meant I needed to manually import documents, which is fine, but this feature would be appreciated on the startup plan.
Pulley is making it easy to manage our small, but growing, cap table. Having software manage the headaches involved with this process is a necessity, and keeping things organized will make it easier for us to raise funds when the time comes.
- Onboarding was straightforward - Integration with Clerky keeps our cap table up to date with no effort - Really friendly people, e.g. asked some questions on support chat and they were still super helpful and friendly. - When we evaluated Pulley vs their competition, we asked what sets them apart. They clearly stated what they are good at, without unnecessarily disparaging their competition. The same can't be said for their competition. I get the sense people at Pulley are proud of what they do, and know they can let facts stand for themselves.
Not much. Sometimes the UI is a bit difficult to navigate, took me a while to figure out where auto-imported SAFEs end up, but support was quick to help out.
409A valuations, cap table management. We'll likely start using more in the future.
It's the only modern solution, and they have a friendly and helpful team.
It's new, but they are also growing quickly.
Full cap table tracking and modeling. They also have an on-boarding team that will build the first version of your cap table.
From the time we contacted Pulley for our cap table management needs through onboarding and getting to clean version 1 of the cap table, it couldn't have been any easier. I highly recommend pulley to any startup looking to get things done without paying an arm and leg for Carta.
Nothing so far! The Pulley platform and team have exceeded all our expectations.
We needed to use Pulley to manage our cap table so we were ready for fundraising. Within a few days of onboarding, we had everything we needed.
We transitioned our Cap Table Management from Carta to Pulley. The transition process was very easy, their support team is incredible, very knowledgeable and prompt to reply. They completely handled our data migration from Cata to Pulley. With our permission, they worked directly with our legal team to make sure everything was accurately represented in Pulley. They have a great UX (very intuitive, easy to make edits, all changes are tracked, bulk imports save a lot of time..) and everything from sales process to customer service to pricing was straightforward and transparent. They are constantly adding great new features. We look forward to additional functionalities. Overall, we are confident that Pulley will be a better partner over the long-term.
There isn't anything we dislike. We are happy customers. We feel in control and are very well taken care of by the Pulley Team.
409A valuations, ability to track dilution. Also, it is incredibly easy to enter data and make edits (while making sure any changes between collaborators are tracked). With Carta, we would have to always contact support or legal if any edits were needed. We feel in control with Pulley!
The team is incredibly hands-on and responsive. I needed an uncommon change at the a last minute, and Fil responded and helped me get it done in less than an hour. Onboarding was very easy.
There's nothing that I dislike about Pulley, it is great
Maintaining my cap table is very easy.
